Groton and covid 19

March 13, 2020. This was when schools all over Groton closed due to the pandemic. Since then, there has been 293,000 cases of covid in Connecticut. New London Coutny making up more than 19 thousand of those cases. Now, almost a year later, the Groton Pfizer center played a big part in making and distributing the vaccine. Even though Groton has had to find new ways to open buisness and live in this unprecedented time, the community is still thriving. Also, around 5,700 nursing home resident COVID-19 cases nationwide during the week of Feb. 1-7. Its data shows weekly recorded cases are down nearly 85 percent since the peak in mid-December. There have been more than 631,000 coronavirus cases among nursing home residents and 127,000 deaths since the pandemic began, according to CMS. More than a quarter of all U.S. deaths are among nursing home residents.
