GWC @ BML

At the Bill Memorial Library in Groton, CT, we have a group of girls who love to code. This is the fourth year the library has had a Girls Who Code club. I encourage you to take a look at our past websites: Recode, Recycle, Reimagine (2020), Bringing Books Back (2019), and Pick a Pet Pal (2018). The technology field is heavily male-dominated, and it is the goal of Girls Who Code to close the gender gap and make technology a more inclusive career. Charlotte

This is my fourth project with this Girls Who Code group. I do a lot of the coding and troubleshooting. In GWC, we use HTML and CSS, but I am also experienced in Java, Python,and JavaScript. Check out some of my stuff at my personal website.

I lived in Groton for the first 11 years of my life and attended Pleasant Valley Elementary School. I moved to Waterford the summer after 5th grade, but I still love the Groton libraries.

Elisabeth

This is my second year perticipating in the GWC program. I'm in 11th grade, I go to Three Rivers Magnet High School, and i'm involved in the yearbook committee there. I like to draw, sing, play piano, and read history books. I'm also really fond of Shakespeare and I've participated in a Shakespeare acting program these past couple of summers (I'm anxiously waiting for next year's plays!) I love making up stories and characters; I've been sketching original characters and coming up with a story since I was 10, and my dream is to publish a series of graphic novels.

Amanda

This is my first year doing Girls Who Code and I just learned to code this year. I am in the 6th grade and I have been homeschooled for four years. Girl Scouts is another activity I enjoy and am working on my Silver Project. I am an only child and have a pet cat named Destiny. My hobbies include swimming, I compete on the Special Olympic team in Groton, and hula hooping, learning the tricks is so much fun.

Sarina

This is my third year doing Girls Who Code. I am in 6th grade, I go to Groton Middle School. My sister, Aleena, is also in Girls who code. I play the violin, and I love to read. I don't think before I do stuff according to some people but I think thats a complete lie. Also,according to my family, im very annoying. I strive to be the best I can, so I can achieve the most I can.

Aleena

This is my third year doing Girls Who Code. I am in 6th grade, I go to Groton Middle School. My sister, Sarina, is also in Girls who code. I love playing roblox and coding. I also love dogs and monkeys and fish. My favorite color is blue. I like working in groups because I am good at teamwork. I loved working on Scary Urban Legends all over Connecticut, I learned a lot of scary stories about connecticut. I really look forward to our next website next year!

Kayla

This is my third year doing Girls Who Code. I love smimming, reading, spending time with friends, and writing-poetry in particular. I have two sisters, am a sophomore in high school, and my favorite animals are dogs and horses. I also started a project with my sisters where we create and deliver tiaras, crowns, and circlets to anyone undergoing medical treatment.

Emily

This is my fourth year in Girls Who Code. I'm in 8th grade. I love reading, music and coding. I do python coding and some html and css. My page on the website is the chatbot. My favorite color is purple, and my favorite animal is a wolf.
